A 50-year-old woman and her three daughters were gang raped in Jouberton near Klerksdorp, North West police said on Monday.
Police spokesperson Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said the woman was raped on Saturday in Extension 14, Jouberton.
“It is alleged that on Saturday, 22 August 2015 at about 1am, a 50-year-old woman was asleep with her children at their place at Extension 14 when she heard someone kicking the door. She woke up and saw three unknown males inside her bedroom. The suspects switched on the light and she managed to see that they were armed with knives,” he said.
According to Mokgwabone, they suspects ordered her to undress and took her to the sitting room where one of them raped her. She was then taken to the bedroom where she was gang raped together with her three daughters, aged between 6 and 18, in the presence of her two sons who were threatened with knives.
“The suspects took households properties and other goods such as cosmetics, clothes and a cellphone to the value of R6 000 before leaving the place. The matter was reported to the police who worked hard and that paid off when the three suspects were eventually arrested. They were charged with house robbery and rape.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed the suspects are members of a gang known as Dog for Money. They have been linked with a case of theft in Extension 14, where they stole a school bag and a pair of shoes belonging to a learner. The accused, aged between 18 and 22, appeared in Klerksdorp Magistrates Court today, and were remanded in custody until Tuesday, 25 August 2015 for formal bail application.”
