A six-year-old girl was raped by a 32-year-old physical education teacher within the premises of a public school in Southeast Delhi’s Nizamuddin area on January 15.
The police have registered a case against the accused under the POCSO Act and arrested him.
According to the police, the parents of the victim approached the police on Wednesday, alleging that their daughter was raped inside the school premises on January 15. They stated that the child was disturbed since then. She did not speak to them about the incident on that day, her parents told the police.
“The victim’s parents stated that she complained of pain in her private parts after which they took her to a doctor. The doctor reportedly told her parents that the girl was possibly sexually assaulted and that they should approach the police. The victim’s mother then spoke to her. The girl broke down and narrated the incident,” a police officer said.
After her parents approached the police, she was taken for a medical examination.
According to the police, the medical examination did not establish rape or sexual assault but based on her parents’ statement, a case under the POCSO Act was registered against the teacher. The police will rope in NGOs to take a detailed statement of the girl and the school authorities will also be questioned in connection with the case.
