TUMAKURU: A minor girl, who is suspected to have been raped, was found murdered at Kadirapura in Kunigal taluk on Tuesday morning. The body of the 11-year-old girl was found on a narrow path enclosed by thorny bushes. The incident occurred just a furlong away from the government higher primary school, where she was studying in Class V.
Postmortem reports revealed that she was strangulated with a rope. There were injuries on the head too, informed Dr Rudramurthy, resident medical officer, district general hospital here.
The samples have been sent to the Forensic Sciences Laboratory in Bengaluru to ascertain whether she was raped, he added. Police suspect she might have been killed while trying to resist rape.
The victim, a Dalit, was living with her maternal grandparents who were getting her educated since her parents were poor and her father was an alcoholic.
On Monday, her ailing grandparents had left for a Tumakuru hospital for treatment. Later, the girl left for school at around 9.30 am. Police say she did not attend school and when she did not return home, her grandparents assumed she had gone to her aunt’s house. However, on Tuesday morning, they found her dead.
Additional Superintendent of Police R Lakshmana told Express, “Someone known to her might have killed her fearing she would reveal everything. Her head appears to have been hit against the ground and she was later strangulated.”
