KANPUR: A six-year-old girl was raped and murdered and her body was dumped in the out-skirts of the village under the limits of Bindki Kotwali police station in neighbouring Fatehpur district on late Monday night.
According to the police, the victim, along with her family, had gone to attend a marriage function of her aunt in Bindki area of the district on Monday night. However, later the girl went missing under mysterious circumstances from the marriage function.
The girls parents immediately inquired with the guests and the family where the marriage function was held, but they failed to provide them any clue regarding her whereabouts.
Her family and neighbours on Tuesday morning again conducted a search in the area and later found her body lying in the fields of one Ganga Sagar, half-a-km from the marriage venue. Later, the police rushed to the spot and tried to take charge of the body but the girl's family members and locals declined to handover the body and instead demanded the cops to first nab the culprits.
They, however, relented after being persuaded by SP Saligram Verma, who assured the agitators of prompt action into the case. The cops later sent the body to mortuary for postmortem.
An investigating official said that the prima-facie evidences suggested that the girl was raped and strangled to death.
"The victim's private parts had injury marks. The girl was strangled to death with the help of a `dupatta'," he said.
Based on this, her kin lodged a complaint of rape and murder against unidentified men.
They further said it appears the girl was raped and killed soon after she was kidnapped. Sources said the police has rounded up few suspects for questioning. Heartrending scenes were witnessed at the victim?s house and her parents were inconsolable.
