Pregnant woman raped by 2 cops
A pregnant woman was raped by two policemen in Hilwadi village under Baraut Kotwali police station in Baghpat district on Thursday. The woman was also assaulted when she tried to resist.
As per the FIR, a police inspector and a constable who were in an inebriated state allegedly entered the victim’s house when she was alone and raped her at gunpoint. After hearing her screams, locals came and caught hold of the constable, while the inspector managed to flee.
The constable, Harpal Singh, was thrashed and handed over to the police. Locals also assembled and demanded immediate action against the accused. “An FIR has been lodged and an inquiry has been ordered. The guilty will not be spared,” Bagpat SP Sharad Kumar Sachan said.
However, police claimed that only the constable was involved. “Though the FIR names two persons, our investigation has revealed that only the constable was involved. Singh has been arrested and sent to jail,” police said, adding that a medical examination confirmed rape.
