JHANSI: A 24-year-old woman was raped in Chitrakoot by a railway contractor and a driver who later dumped them in a field and fled.
Reports said the woman was raped in front of her brother-in-law who was held captive by the duo. The incident took place on the night of January 2 when the woman and her brother-in-law alighted from a train at Rajapur station to visit one of their relatives. They had come from Jabalpur.
As they came out of the station's main entrance, they were stopped by two persons who first checked their ticket and then demanded their identity card. Failing which they forcefully bundled them in the police jeep saying that they will be taken to police station.
Later, they were taken to a desolate place where the accused first tied up the man and then took turn to rape the woman. They then dumped their victims near a village and fled. In the morning both of them approached the police with the help of villagers and informed about the incident.
Police registered a case and within hours located the vehicle. One of the accused was the driver of the jeep was arrested. He was recognized by the victim at the police station. CO Chitrakoot Shreepal Yadav confirmed the rape and use of RPF vehicle. He said, "We have arrested one Krishna Kumar, driver of the vehicle while the other accused, Vijay, a contractor is absconding."
RPF commandant Rajive Kumar Yadav said that the vehicle was hired and the accused driver was not an employee of RPF.
