14-year-old abducted, gang-raped
BAREILLY: A 14-year-old girl was abducted by three men in a car at Faridpur tehsil on Thursday morning. A fourth man joined them later. The men took the girl to a hotel in the old city and gang-raped her, police said.
Police acted swiftly on a complaint from the girl's parents, as the incident threatened to snowball into a communal issue - the girl and her abductors were from different communities. The girl identified one of her rapists as a man who lived in her neighbourhood.
The 14-year-old was later dropped back near her home. Seeing her bedraggled, her parents immediately suspected that something was amiss. The girl confessed that the four men slapped her and took turns raping her.
The girl said the men had also clicked pictures of their crime. She said she was threatened with dire consequences if she reported the matter to anyone.
The minor is a resident of Kanoongayan in Faridpur tehsil, and a student of the Kanya Inter College. The girl named one of her attackers as Mohammad Miyan, a man she was acquainted with as he lived in the same neighbourhood.
After the crime, the four men forced her out of their moving vehicle, near her house. Circle officer Manoj Pandey of Faridpur said, "A case has been registered against four men under various sections of the IPC."
He said Section 363 (kidnapping), 376 (rape) and the prevention of children from sexual offences (POSCO) Act had been invoked against the four men. Police have arrested two men that the girl managed to identify.
An angry crowd gathered on the streets in the area, blocking the main highway and demanding immediate action against the men. Senior police and administrative officials rushed to the spot and pacified the crowd. Provincial Armed Constabulary and Rapid Action Force personnel have been deployed at the spot to keep the peace, SP (city) Rajeev Malhotra said.
