A 23-year-old school teacher was raped by a youth in Khera village, Pilibhit district, while she was returning home on Thursday afternoon.
The woman has been sent for medical examination while the accused is absconding. Police lodged an FIR in the case on Friday.
Police said that the woman, a resident of Akhbarabad village, was returning home from school when the accused, Mintu, a resident of Khera village, abducted her. He reportedly took her to a sugarcane field and raped her. Mintu, a labourer, then fled from the spot, leaving the woman in the field.
The woman went to her village and informed her family members about the incident. She was admitted to a hospital in Pilibhit village and her family members lodged a complaint against the accused on Friday. A case was registered under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The teacher told the police that she had never met with or spoken to the accused before the incident.
"We have sent the woman for medical examination and are awaiting the reports. Though the accused is on the run, we will arrest him soon," said Rajesh Yadav, station officer, Bilsanda police station.
