Children access porn sites from age SIX

Children start watching porn on the internet from the age of six and will start flirting online when they are just eight-years-old, a study has revealed.

More than 19,000 parents worldwide took part in a survey, with data compiled using information on which sites they choose to block and which their children have access to regularly. The study found that almost a quarter of children had at least one social network account by the time they were 12-years-old and that most lie about their age when creating their online profiles. To join Facebook, for example, you have to be 13-years-old.

Disturbingly, two per cent of computer addicts were just five-years-old and 17 per cent were social media users by age 10. Overall, kids are turning to computer games and things like instant messaging at a younger age than they did a few years ago.

The study was published by Bitdefender, the creator of some of the Internet’s best antivirus software. It also found that gaming, hacking and so-called 'hate' websites, where young people are free to use profanity are go-to sites for children.

Bitdefender Chief Security Strategist Catalin Cosoi told USA Today: 'Kids nowadays are acting like young adults online — just give them an Internet-connected device, and they will find a way to things parents would like to ban forever.'

Jo Webber, CEO of Virtual Piggy, a website that enables kids to manage and spend money within a parent-controlled environment, said: 'Kids lie about their age to get access to something they want to explore, in this case a social network. It's no different than my generation lying about age to get cigarettes or into a bar.'
